Hi! My name’s Sarah de Souza and I’m an editor, writer and proofreader for hire, with a speciality in fiction. I’ve worked at Hachette, Little, Brown, Hodder & Stoughton and Atlantic, and have freelanced for Penguin and 404 Ink. I’ve edited a wide range of bestselling and award-winning novels, from romance to thrillers to literary fiction. I’ve been a reader for the Curtis Brown Creative Awards and the Future Bookshelf. I’ve written for magazines, literary publications and websites including Ambit, Berfrois, 3a.m., Poor Lass Zine, Porridge Magazine and Horse Egg Literary. My prose poem ‘Princess’ was nominated for the Best of the Net Awards in 2021 and I won the Hertford Flash Fiction Prize in 2015, judged by author Joanna Walsh.
I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Oxford University, where I was an awardee of the Moritz-Heyman Scholarship. I’m an alumna of the Fresh Chapters Traineeship.
